Write more bullet points

You ever get e-mails that are just long blocks of texts and it takes forever to find out what you need to pay attention to?

Those are super annoying in a work context, and take a lot of mental energy to interpret.

If you're writing work e-mails for clients, make liberal use of bolded texts and bullet points.

For example, if you have a status update for a client, you can format it like this:

Project X

  • I fixed A, B, and C last week
  • I'm following up with John from HR today
  • Request: Can you send me the Pinsky files?

Bullets force you to think through what you actually want to say, and then to say it concisely.

They are harder to write, but easier for your clients and co-workers to read, which will make you look smart and effective.
