Will Elon Musk kill government contracting?
A few people in my industry have asked if I thought Elon Musk is going to greatly reduce contracting opportunities.
The truth is I have no idea.
But my hunch is that government bureaucracies are actually much stronger than even Elon Musk.
There are too many vested interested in maintaining the bureaucracy and keeping the government dollars flowing.
I'm actually a little optimistic that he might make the government contracting process better and more efficient, perhaps allowing small businesses to more effectively compete with the big guys by reducing unnecessary paperwork.
Regardless of what the Elon and the next administration end up doing, I would simply focus on being valuable to your clients, building useful/marketable skills, and continuing to network.
I'd maybe spend a little time networking outside of government contracting too, mostly because this is a good time to see if the private sector may offer something more interesting. And, if Elon Musk does succeed, having an existing network outside of GovCon could be useful.
Keep calm and carry on.
