What to ask a recruiter

You can get a lot of information from a call with a recruiter.

When I get one from a smaller sub-contractor, I usually ask the following questions:

  • How long is the contract? Have you won it is or is this still in the proposal stage?
  • Are you the prime? If not, who is?
  • Could you tell me the salary range for this role?

If they answer those questions it can give you a sense of which prime to reach out to and whether it's worth your time to pursue it from a contract duration perspective and financial perspective.

I have even asked recruiters to introduce me to the prime PM. They usually turn me down but on occasion I'll get the intro.

When you have the opportunity to learn more about a potential lead, take it!
