Using Job Boards Strategically for 1099 Success

Generated by DALL·E

One way you can find 1099 gig opportunities is to browse company job boards.

If you see they are hiring for positions that you qualify for, you can try to find the program manager and set up a meeting, or just apply, interview, and then persuade the PM to bring you as a 1099.

This also works if you're looking to leave your current project and your prime has other opportunities that look more interesting.

For example, if you're working on project X for them and you see they have openings in project Y, you can ask your current PM about it.

This can be a little sensitive because you are hinting you will be moving on.

If you have already moved on from the project and you see a job opening at your former prime's company, you an also reach out to your former PM and ask if they can make introduction to the PM for that job req.

You can say, "Hey Kevin I saw that your company has a project over at ABC agency based on this job req [include link]. Do you know the PM over there? If so would you be opposed to making an introduction?"

Looking on job boards is also useful if you're currently on a project and want to hire someone. You can go to your current PM and tell them you have someone in mind for some of their openings and ask them if they'd be open to bringing them on under your company.

Job boards are a nice source of intel for opportunities. It can reveal current needs and point you in the right direction for further investigation.
