Talk to your work neighbors

On my last project, I regularly interacted with staff on a parallel contract with a different company, my "work neighbors" so to speak.

Before I left the contract, I asked some people I knew at the other company for intros to their program managers.

I was able to set up a call (after many follow ups) and now there is a possibility of sub-contracting to them in the near future.

If you work in government contracting, you'll likely work with people from other companies. Develop a friendly relationship them and don't be hesitant to ask for an introduction to a relevant contact.

If you've treated them well and have a good reputation, they'll be happy to help you.

Whether it's your first 1099 gig or your tenth, make sure to take advantage of the easy networking opportunities that are right in front of you.
