Sources of 1099 business intelligence

When you're looking for 1099 gigs, there are a few places you could look for information that may help you.

Generally, you're looking for information about open positions, bill rates, contract structure (prime contractor, duration, etc.), upcoming contract bids, etc.

Here are a few sources I've used in different ways to get 1099 "business intelligence."

  • Company websites (news/announcement page, job boards, etc)
  • Government agency "doing business with websites"
  • Clients
  • Co-workers
  • Former clients
  • Former co-workers
  • Recruiters
  • Third party job boards
  • Program managers
  • Government contracting industry websites
  • SAM.gov
  • The CC line on prime e-mails to sub-contractors
  • Internal SharePoint sites

Not all sources are equally valuable, but they can help you get a holistic picture of the opportunities you are pursuing.
