Setbacks are a feature, not a bug

A long time ago I practiced "Salat," or Islamic prayer, for a month as part of my Ancient Wisdom Project experiment/blog project.

What I Learned from Praying 5 Times a Day

Five times per day I would interrupt what I was doing, roll a travel prayer mat on the floor, and work through a series of prostrations.

There were a few times when I was at work and had to book a private conference room with no windows so I could pray. I was super nervous about people walking in and wonder WTF I was doing.

The whole routine was very inconvenient.

But you know what?

By interrupting my daily routine I was reminded that I was not God and not the center of the universe. It took me out of the realm of the profane and reminded of the sacred.

The inconvenience was a feature, not a bug.

I faced a few minor business setbacks recently that frustrated me.

But, setbacks are a natural part of any endeavor, particularly in business.

With the right perspective, it helps you become better tactically and more resilient long term.

Setbacks are a feature, not a bug.

So if you have faced a few setbacks in your attempts to go 1099, just remember it serves a purpose: to give you the opportunity to become better.
