Send deliverable "snippets"
I just started a new project and I'm working on some slides to present to my team lead and client.
I had planned to finish it by the end of the week but after working on it for a few hours I realized I wouldn't complete it.
So instead of just sending nothing, I chose one slide that was in good shape and sent it over, explaining that the final product wasn't finished but that I'd appreciate feedback on this piece.
This is a good habit to get into because:
- It shows you're making progress
- You get feedback earlier, which can help you course correct
- It increases the frequency of contact with your client, which helps further the relationship
If you get assigned projects that take longer than expected or by nature are long term, send little "snippets" of your work as you go along.
