Research tool: USASPENDING.gov
Over the past few years the government has really improved some of it's public contract data search tools.
One tool that's pretty cool is USASPENDING.gov.
I haven't done this to get new sub-contracts, but one idea I had to research companies with prime contracts is to used the Advanced Search capability.
Let's say I wanted to look for companies that were awarded firm fixed contracts (FFP) in Virginia for analytics.
- Navigate to the advanced search https://www.usaspending.gov/search
-
Add filters
- Keyword - analytics
- Time period - FY2023 and FY2022
- Award Type - Contracts
- Location - Virginia
- Type of contracts - Firm Fixed Price
- Click search
The result is a list of companies and contracts (most of which have 'analytics' in the company name).
If I click on one, say, contract number 70CMSD21FR0000137 which was awarded to Bluestone Analytics LLC, I can get a few more details on the award.
Bluestone Analytics award 70CMSD21FR0000137
Looks like they perform "IT investigative support services" for the Department of Homeland Security.
That's not really up my alley but that made me want to check out their website.

Seems interesting, but it looks like they were acquired by CACI.
If they were a smaller company I might reach out to a partner or someone that works there and see if they'd be interested in hopping on a call for analytics support.
If you're looking for another way to research companies with contracts that would be a fit for you, this could be a good place to start.
