Reduce commitments by Going 1099
One of the things that happens as a W2 employee is you get sucked into doing things that are outside of your core job.
Instead of just billing hours, your boss volunteers you to work on proposals, the party planning committee asks you to help organizae a morale boosting off-site, and you get invited to various company meetings where you add nothing to the conversation.
The nice part about going 1099 is that all of that stuff goes away, and even though you're working a normal 40-hour work week, it feels lighter becaues you don't have all those extra tasks adding to your mental overhead.
Yes, you will have to look for more projects and maintain client relationships and all that, but it won't feel forced. They'll feel like natural things you need to do; not artificial nonsense you don't want to do.
That's probably one of the best perks of the 1099 lifestyle. Money is great, but a clear head and lower ambient anxiety is even better.
