Raise a Glass to Freedom

Just a reminder on this 4th of July that as Americans, you are wired to want your independence.

Our colonial ancestors hated being under the thumb of the British so much that they decided to fight a war for their freedom, even though on balance it probably wasn't so bad being a British colony.

Similarly, being a W2 employee isn't so bad, but the small indignities of performance reviews, non-sensical bureaucratic rituals, and a limited amount of PTO can foster an internal rebellion that will eventually lead to your independence...I mean...independent 1099 consulting agreement.

So if you are still a W2 employee and are fighting the good fight to join the ranks of the 1099 militia (a disorganized militia, 1099s are not good in groups), I salute your courage and drink beer and grill steaks in your honor.

If you are a fellow 1099, appreciate the freedom you and those you who came before you fought so hard to achieve, and provide support for and encourage those who have not yet achieved their freedom.
