Pursue big ambition through small efforts
I liked this Tweet (or "X" statement? Not sure what to call it) from a former McKinsey consultant who left to do this own thing.
"Ambition is scarce because we think an extreme effort kind of ambition one that’s aiming at billions is the only flavor I wonder how many highly capable people give up and settle into uninspiring jobs because of a bad model of ambition I think ambition is really about taking some small action. And then continuing to level up commitment. Rather than aiming at some big goal from the beginning. This is almost always how it happens but we ignore people’s origin stories."

Big goals provide big energy. However the energy is short lived, and you'll give up on it as soon as you hit an obstacle.
However, smaller steps are more achievable and they generate energy every time you accomplish something.
Even if you have a big goal, take time to break it into smaller steps that are rewarding on its own.
Going 1099 may be your big goal, or it may be a smaller goal on the way to a bigger business.
Whatever your goals are, execute the small version of it. And do it again and again.
