Opportunities when you quit a gig
As a 1099, if you quit, or plan to quit your current gig, here are a few opportunities you can potentially take advantage of:
- You can potentially renegotiate your rate and stay
- You can hire someone to replace you if the prime is open to it and you are administratively set up for it
- You can renegotiate terms of your gig, perhaps stay part time or work your new project and the one you're leaving at the same time for extra money
- You can stay in touch with the program manager and ask about other projects or intros to other folks he knows
- You can hire colleagues from your old project to your new project (just try not to violate non-solicitation agreements)
As a 1099 you'll begin to think more opportunistically and take advantage of any situation you find yourself in to improve your business.
