Make it easy to help you

People love helping other people.

It makes them feel really good.

This is great because in pursuit of your first 1099 gig, you will need help!

But what people don't like is getting vague requests. If they have to think long and hard about how they can help you, it frustrates them.

So be specific when you ask people for help.

Don't just ask for an introduction to anyone, ask for an introduction to a program manager or a specific person they know.

Don't ask them to let you know if any opportunities pop up, ask them to let you know if they hear of anything in a specific department that uses your specific skill sets.

Make it easy for them to help you.

They'll feel good and you're more likely to get what you need.
