Get third degree connections

A small company recently reached out to me about working for them.

I declined but I ended up talking with the owner.

He is now a first degree connection.

He put me in touch with an old buddy of his at Accenture Federal Services (AFS).

This is a second degree connection.

This lead to a teaming agreement to bid on an upcoming contracting together.

I asked the AFS guy if any of his colleagues/program manager would need any support from my company.

He put me in touch with two more people.

These are third degree connections.

If you keep pulling the thread you'll find that it's the second and third degree connections that really expand your network. It's because it takes advantage of the network of the first degree connection, then the second degree connection, and so on and so on.

You already have a network but your network has a network that you can get access to as well.
