Get the social edge
I'm a mediocre data analyst.
If you were hiring a data analyst, I definitely wouldn't be the first choice on paper. You might not even interview me!
BUT, if I were a "cheating" job applicant and, prior to you opening up the job, asked you to coffee and asked for your advice and thoughts on data analysis at your company, there is a very good chance you'd choose me for the job.
You might not even open the job to the public. You might just hire me!
Finding jobs, and 1099 gigs for that matter, work this way.
If the only piece of information someone has about you is your resume, they will judge you by your technical skills and experience on your resume.
If they also have social information about you i.e. how much they like you, that will play a much greater role in their judgement of you.
Take advantage of this human trait.
People want to help people they like. They will help you get a 1099 gig if they like you.
