Get face time with the client

My natural tendency is to work alone. I like to generate projects for myself and move them forward on my own timeline.

However, if you're in a service or client oriented role, it will be difficult to progress in your career if you hole up in a corner somewhere and just quietly do your work.

Yesterday I worked out of the client's office (I work in a different site) and just being there for a few hours gave me much better insight into the client's problems, and gave me the opportunity to chat with her for a while.

If I were intending to stay long term, I'd consider working out of that office more regularly. It would help facilitate the client relationship and likely generate opportunities down the road.

Remote work is great, and probably best for most people lifestyle-wise, but if you're ambitious in your career, 1099 or otherwise, you should probably work on site more with your client.

Getting "face time" is hard to do over Facetime.
