Free options for 1099s
I've been networking with account/program managers with a big company to see what type of people of they need.
I spoke with two PMs who needed staff with TS/SCI - FS Poly security clearances.
Folks with these clearances are very scarce, and I have no idea if I'll be able to recruit them.
BUT, the PMs and I agreed to submit the paperwork to put me on the team.
There is basically no downside because for the cost of some time spent filling out some boring paperwork, I have the option to supply staff and make money.
It is a "free option:" lots of potential upside for almost no downside.
There are lots of free/low cost options in 1099 life:
- Networking activities: going out to coffee, sending an e-mail, etc
- Teaching yourself a new, valuable skill is a low cost option (mainly some time and energy)
- Non-exclusive teaming agreements with primes
- Research about salaries/rates in your line of work
- Knowledge of future work coming out within your agency
Unlike some businesses that require a heavy cash investment up front, a solo 1099 business mainly requires some time, energy, and a little courage.
So take advantage of the free options available to you. You have nothing to lose and much to gain.
