Consistency beats volume

You're busy.

You have the day job, maybe you have kids, and you want to stay fit, maintain your friendships, etc.

It's hard!

If you're looking to go 1099, it can be intimidating to think about how you're going to find the time to make it happen.

Of course, if you think about it as a single, big project, you'll never do it.

But if you break down the tasks and block off a small period of time to do the tasks, you'll make a lot of progress.

Here's what I recommend.

  • Set aside a 1 - 2 hour block in the morning (I get up real early, like 5 AM)
  • Make a list of small tasks you can do to help you with the 1099 goal. Examples below:
    • Write down three people to contact in your network
    • E-mail one person from your list
    • Search the job boards for open positions that use your skills or are with your client
    • Brainstorm three resume narratives to use
    • Schedule one happy hour with a former co-worker
  • Do just one of these tasks
  • Do this every day

You do this for a year and you will have made a ton of progress.

Consistency beats volume.
