Can you go 1099 if you have anxiety?
Anxiety is a hot topic these days and the market has caught on.
This WSJ article mentions an increase in anti-anxiety meds, vitamins, weighted blankets, therapeutic treatments, and online coaching available to those who can afford them.

I have some thoughts on the topic of anxiety in modern American, but I want to focus on the question of being able to go 1099 if you do suffer from anxiety.
The short answer is: yes you can!
I don't suffer from anxiety disorder, but just like everyone else, I worry about my life and my future.
The feeling comes from not being in control of what will happen to you. You have this sensation that things will go to shit and you can't anticipate exactly how or when it will happen.
You know that feeling when your boss sets up a meeting with you but doesn't tell you what it's about?
That's anxiety.
You know what I've found reduces anxiety?
Taking control of my circumstances.
Going 1099 is a way to get more control of your career in the government contracting space.
No, you don't control everything, but you get more control over the money you make, the hours you work, the people you work with, and the projects you take on.
I feel the best when I'm making progress towards my goals, and it's easier to do that as a 1099.
As a W2, there are just so many more impediments to getting a substantial raise or promotion. You're in a weird power hierarchy and a culture that is incompatible with your personalitiy.
It's no wonder you'd have anxiety!
So yes, not only do I think you CAN go 1099 if you have anxiety, it may actually help get rid of it.
