Be selfish last
When you're considering a new job, you're often thinking about what you want.
You want higher pay, a flexible schedule, paid professional development opportunities, six weeks of PTO, and so on.
It's good to think about what you want. it helps you narrow down opportunities to consider.
But first, you have to generate opportunities.
To do this, you must focus on your clients' wants and needs.
If you're too "selfish" before you've demonstrated you understand and meet your clients' needs, you won't get what you want.
You must earn the right to be selfish and you earn it by first meeting the selfish needs of your clients.
Then, you'll be in a position to make more money, take Friday's off, etc.
Successful 1099s learn how to be selfish last, not first.
