Be a therapist to your client

My wife and I will occasionally listen to Esther Perel's podcast: Where should we begin?

Where should we begin?

She is a hotshot couple's therapist who helps her clients figure out why they behave the way they do in their relationships.

Hint: It almost always comes down to the way they did or didn't receive love in their childhood.

The coolest effect is when the patients have an epiphany, and all of sudden, their world makes sense to them.

A bit of insight and a cohesive narrative gives them a new outlook and hope to improve their relationships and their lives.

Organizations, particularly government bureaucracies, are messy.

There are lots of (slow) moving parts, people in jobs ill suited to their skills and experience, and lofty mandates.

Your job, as a 1099 consultant, is to help make your client's world make sense.

The client is always fighting fires and they don't know when it's going to stop, why it keeps happening, or how to get out of it.

If you can help your client take a step back and see the big picture, they will be forever grateful to you.

Like a therapist, you can help your client get a new perspective on their situation and then, help formulate a plan to get what they want.

If you can do that, your 1099 future is secure.
