AI is the new Excel
One of the reasons I was able to go 1099 was because I learned intermediate Excel skills: VLookup, Pivot tables, charts, etc.
It's not hard to learn, but most of my peers and clients were intimidated by it, so I became the go-to guy to do things like that.
AI is the next tool to learn to give you an edge in your 1099 career.
Example: I'm setting up disability and life insurance benefits for my company and it's a lot to take in.
So what I did was upload some of the benefits document to ChatGPT and asked it a few questions.
It did great!
It's not perfect, but a lot of government contracting/consulting work is doing things like summarizing documents, stitching together presentations, doing data analysis and creating visualizations, all of which are good tasks for AI.
I guarantee you, if you learn how to use the tool effectively now, you will be way ahead of your colleagues and establish as someone who can get things done quickly with AI.
So while you're learning Excel, pay the $20/month to get the premium ChatGPT account and figure out ways to use it in your day-to-day work.
That will give you leverage to go 1099!
