Accept help
I'm someone who likes to figure things out myself, rather than go to someone else for help.
It's a strength in many cases, and is one of the reasons why I've been able to pull off the 1099 lifestyle so far.
BUT, it's also a weakness because accepting help is a great way to strengthen a relationship.
People LOVE helping other people. It makes them feel good, smart, and useful.
One of my current challenges is that I'm interested in learning how the government proposal process works. I've been doing all the research online but, just like researching becoming a 1099 federal sub-contractor, the material is bureaucratic or pseudo-scammy.
But, if I just asked another business owner who has gone through it, not only will I get useful advice, but we will have a stronger relationship which could lead to some interesting opportunities down the road.
So I'm meeting up with a few folks in the industry and treating them to happy hour and picking their brain. I'm hoping it leads to good things down the line.
I'll also extend the offer to you dear readers. If you need some help, shoot me a note. Happy to do it because it makes me feel good, smart, and useful ;).
