1099 resume narrative formula

Most resumes are terrible and are simply a chronological list of experiences that may or may not be cohesive.

In my book, I recommend you structure your resume so it conveys a cohesive narrative.

At the top of the resume in your professional summary, you can follow the simple formula:

Formula: "I am an [X type of professional] who helps clients get [Y results] by doing [Z skills/techniques].

Example: "I am a data visualization expert who helps clients understand their financial reporting by developing intuitive Tableau dashboards."

Then, you should remove everything in your resume that doesn't support the narrative. Less is more in many cases.

The goal is to give program managers and recruiters a quick sense of who you are and how you fit into their contracts.

You will convey a certain "vibe" that the PM can work with and use to make a decision.

You'll also find that recruiters will reach out to you with more relevant work, since it will be easier to tell what you're good at doing.

Narratives beat chronological facts for getting a 1099 gig. Make sure you have one.
